Job Descriptions

Wing Commander (CC):
The head of the wing, the buck stops here. The Wing Commander is responsible for the long term wing strategy and goals. He directs the Mission Statement and Wing Policy. With the help of dedicated officers and members of staff, ensures the continued longevity of the wing. He is ultimately responsible for all of the other delegated responsibilities of Wing Command and Wing Staff, and as such exercises the right to appoint officers to those positions in order to enable him in his work.

Wing Operations Officer (WOO):
The Wing Operations Officer is the Wing Commanders right hand man and, takes care of daily wing issues. He is responsible for pushing things into action, being aware of what’s going on in the wing and, translating goals of the wing into actions with the assistance of dedicated officers and members of staff. He is also responsible for managing, adjusting and, enforcing Wing Operational Procedures, Standards & Evaluation in order to facilitate professional, yet enjoyable flying in the 87th through the help of dedicated officers. He is to build, maintain and, enforce a foundation of wing wide operational standards which makes flying in the squadron standard, professional and, fun.

 

  • Brief Wing Staff on what's going on in the wing by forum and/or e-mail.
  • Brief the Wing Commander on the status of the wing.
  • Coordinate and manage Wing Staff collectively so that no one needs to swim up-stream, this includes recruiting and replacing members of staff when necessary.
  • Manage 87th wing policy, rules and regulations to ensure an environment exists where there is balance between fun and professionalism.
  • Uphold a professional image of the 87th, its staff, Instructors, Officers and Recruits.
  • Participate as a collective member of staff with wing administration issues (replying to important e-mails and forum posts).
  • Maintain the 87th on a track towards its long term goals by setting short term goals.
  • Ensure the smooth coordination and/or deconfliction of wing operations with the help of dedicated officers and/or members of staff.
  • Ensure that any official operations in the squadron are in compliance with wing standards.
  • Issue minimum Standard Operating Procedures, Briefing/Debriefing Guides, Pilot Handbooks and any other tactical material necessary for squadrons to operate effectively, with minimal delay.
  • Ensure that with the above, an environment conductive to official and, enjoyable flying exists in the Squadron.

Development Officer (DO):
The Development Officer is primarily responsible for the Wing standard installer. This means coordinating all 87th development and beta-testing efforts both internal and to external development groups. Furthermore the DO is tasked with providing possible updates when required.

  • Coordinate 87th test flying between 87th members and development groups where needed.
  • Provide Standard Operating Procedures for new installer patches as well as tutorials for updated features.
  • Coordinate timing of releases with Wing Command.
  • Provide feedback from members regarding development requests to developers.
  • Participate in 87th Staff and Command discussions and decisions.

Personnel Officer (PO):
The Personnel Officer is responsible for all things concerning the management of 87th personnel. He responsible for the selection of candidates in accordance with 87th application policy & requirements. He is to keep candidates apprised of their candidacy to the 87th, ensure that new recruits fully know what is expected of them and, that they have the tools and documents necessary to advance through training.

  • Ensure that there is a smooth execution of regular intakes of new recruits to the wing and, ensure the smooth transition from recruit to officer to his best abilities.
  • Keep and, maintain personnel records (including applications) with important information and dates.
  • Maintain up to date, standard e-mails for candidates, new recruits, as well as e-mails with important information for recruits becoming officers and, those administratively discharged from the wing.
  • Participate as a collective member of staff with wing administration issues (replying to important e-mails and forum posts).

874th Squadron Commander (CC):
The 874th is a dedicated Training Squadron; its Squadron Commander is responsible for the short and long term operation of his squadron and is responsible for making sure that recruits are trained effectively through Initial Qualification Training, so that everyone has at common minimum level of competency when it comes to flying. He is responsible for making sure that training exists so that recruits will comply with wing standards. He does this with the assistance of dedicated Instructors for which he is responsible for selecting.

  • Ensure that the training provided is professional, constructive and enjoyable.
  • Keep and maintain up to date Training Documents that are to be used during training.
  • Recruit and train new Instructor Pilots to replace retired ones and ensure that Instructors stick to training standards.
  • Maintain a Training Program so that recruits stay competent whilst flying.
  • Participate as a collective member of staff with wing administration issues (replying to important e-mails and forum posts).

Network Officer (NO):
The Network Officer is essentially the webmaster of the 87th. He is responsible for all things concerning the 87th Network Infrastructure, including the website, the 87th domain, and 87th network services such as IRC, e-mail, voice servers and such. He also oversees and manages the Web-Team (MLU).

  • Website Management – Manage and maintain the 87th website by overseeing content, client usability, optimization and administration.
  • Oversee the Web-Team (MLU) which assists with Website Management.
  • Web analytics/measurement – Track and evaluate site performance, making appropriate adjustments and recommending/implementing enhancements.
  • Website enhancements – Manage and coordinate with Wing staff and other groups where appropriate to identify and implement enhancements that showcase the content, engage the user and improve the functionality of the site.
  • Work in conjunction with the Web-Team to identify/implement content changes and enhancements.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Web-Team (MLU):
The Web-Team reports to the Network Officer and is responsible for the day to day running of the 87th Website.

  • Website Management – Manage and maintain the 87th website by overseeing content, client usability, optimization and administration.
  • Ensure that the material on the 87th website is professionally presented to uphold the image of the 87th.
  • Solicit additional web material from the 87th.
  • Ensure that all updates to the website are properly recorded through the use of the web-updates user interface.
  • Use the web team mailing list in order to communicate with the rest of the web-team to ensure that everyone is aware of changes made to the website.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

872/873/876/877 Squadron Commanders (CC):
The 872/873/876/877 are Combat Ready Squadrons. Their Squadron Commanders are responsible for the short and long term operation of his squadron. Along with dedicated officers and members of staff, they will ensure that an environment conductive to flying and camaraderie exists in the squadron. In addition, they will ensure that the squadron is up to standard (SOP, Installer, etc) so that minimum time is wasted on the ground and in the air.

  • Keeping up activities (operations, exercises, competitions) within the squadron and, between squadrons.
  • Communicate with his officers and, staff as he expects them to communicate with him.
  • Send out at-least e-mails or make a forum post concerning the status of the squadron to officers and staff from time to time.
  • Maintain a professional, positive and friendly image of himself and his officers or recruits.
  • Participate as a collective member of staff with wing administration issues (replying to important e-mails and forum posts).
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Squadron Operations Officer (SOO):
The Squadron Operations Officer is the Squadron Commanders right hand man. Along with the Squadron Commander, he is responsible for the day to day administration of the squadron. He is to keep himself and his officers/recruits informed of squadron activities. He is responsible for translating the Squadron Commanders goals into actions and, assisting the Squadron Commander by sharing his set of responsibilities in his name.

  • Ensure activities run smoothly within the squadron and, between squadrons by coordinating the parties involved.
  • Communicate with his Squadron Commander, Officers, Recruits, and Staff as he expects them to communicate with him.
  • Coordinate and assist the Squadron Commander in sending out at-least a monthly e-mail/forum post concerning the status of the squadron.
  • Maintain a professional, positive and friendly image of himself, his officers or recruits.
  • Participate as a collective member of staff with wing administration issues (replying to important e-mails and forum posts).
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Instructor Pilots (IP):
Instructors play a key role in 87th Stray Dogs Training Programs. An instructor pilot is responsible for the hands on teaching of new recruits as well as officers so that they have at-least the minimum level of competency required to fly in the wing. They are directly responsible for conducting training sessions as needed and, to participate as a member of the 87th Instructor Body by replying to recruits on matters of training and, other important posts or e-mails concerning training. Instructors must have and maintain above average skill and knowledge in the subject which they train. An Instructor Pilot will be assigned to the 874th Squadron on a dual assignment, so that he will also maintain his place in his original squadron.

  • Help out students with questions regarding training and related technical issues.
  • Maintain a high level of proficiency in your subject matters.
  • Have and maintain training notes to assist you in your sessions.
  • Maintain records of a student’s performance and make them available to other instructors.
  • Use proper discretion concerning the details of a student’s training.
  • Conduct oneself in a constructive, objective and professional manner towards all students during training.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Officers:
Officers are the foundation of the 87th Stray Dogs. They consist of both new and old members, who signed up because of one purpose only; "The love for the sim."
Being an officer within the wing, means that you have earned your wings and proven yourself capable of flying with some of the "most professional virtual pilots" found on the Internet. As such you have some responsibilities you must uphold.

  • Keep yourself informed of squadron and wing events by reading your 87 e-mails, website and forum posts.
  • Show initiative, contribute to the team. Even if you think you do not have anything to offer, the gesture of lending yourself towards any task that needs to be done to your Squadron Staff is always appreciated. What you take out, you should be willing to give back.
  • Conduct yourself as an officer and a gentleman at all times, especially in the public. Wearing the 87th Patch is a privilege, not a right.
  • Follow the rules & leadership of the wing, even in the unlikely case that the guy next to you doesn’t.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Recruits:
Recruits are the lifeblood of the organization. After being selected out of the candidates, half way to becoming an officer, you have some obligations to fill. In order to become a full member of the wing, you must earn your wings, something that everyone regardless of skill or experience, must do.

  • Pay attention during training; ask questions if you are uncertain.
  • Attend training sessions regularly; it is YOUR responsibility to ensure you finish training within the allotted time.
  • Come to class prepared, do your homework properly, regardless of how easy you think the upcoming session may be.
  • Stay up to date with events & information necessary for you to advance. Stay in touch with your CC, OO and IP.
