Situation:
In late 1950, United Nations’ forces advanced far into North Korea. The North Korean army was routed and retreated into China attempting to regroup. In December 1950, with the assistance of China, North Korea launched an all-out counterattack driving UN forces south. The 7th Marines held Hill 1542 to hold the advance of 100,000 Chinese and North Koreans. Outnumber 10-to-1 they held until they were completely surrounded.
Mission Objectives:
The 87th (v) Fighter Squadron, along with 1031st Fighter Squadron attached to the 1067 Carrier Task Force, is tasked with attacking and destroying the Chinese and North Korean 20th and 27th armies south of the Chosin Resevoir to open a gap and allow the 7th Marines to redeploy to the south.
